The 2014 growing season was one of the driest on record for California’s central coast. A warm spring awoke the vines earlier than usual, but during bloom the weather was impeccable. We waited until the end of September to begin our first Syrah harvest, allowing for a longer maturation process and greater complexity. The 2014 PharaohMoans Grenache vines are made up of the famous 362 clone, known for its small, tight clusters and is most commonly planted in the northern Rhone valley of France. We picked in early October, then fermented 10% of the volume in whole clusters to enhance the herbal and floral notes. The juice was gently pumped over and extended on the skin for more than three weeks. After it was pressed off, the Grenache spent the next 16 months in one- and two-year-old 400 liter barrels to enable the fruit profiles to better integrate. The Grenache exudes flavors of crushed strawberries and exotic red fruits, and finishes with bright herbal notes, minerality, smokey aromas and soft tannins. This wine will age gracefully for 8-12 years.

We produced only 85 cases of PharaohMoans 2014 Grenache, which will ship this Fall. The price for the Grenache is $570 per six pack (6 x 750ml).

2014 GRENACHE, 94 POINTS
"A very fine-textured grenache with dried strawberries and spices. Medium-bodied, polished and sexy. Delightful wine. Only 85 cases made."
- James Suckling, December 2016

2014 GRENACHE, 94 POINTS
"The 2014 Grenache is a beautiful, ripe and full-bodied wine that has the standard seamless texture that's the hallmark of all of winemaker Guillaume Fabre's wines. Made from 100% Grenache that saw just a touch of whole cluster and 18 months in neutral oak, this beauty's vibrant purple color is followed by notes of kirsch, blackberries, ground herbs, graphite and toasted spice. These give way to a sexy, polished Grenache that has terrific concentration, impressive purity of fruit and ripe, sweet tannin. It's already hard to resist, and I see no need to hold off either."
- eRobertParker, August 2016

2012 GRENACHE, 92 POINTS
"Aged 17 months in neutral barrels, the 2012 Grenache exhibits pretty notes of camphor, kirsch, dried cherries and balsam to go with a full-bodied, supple, sexy and forward style on the palate that's about as easy drinking as they come. Drink this total charmer over the coming 5-7 years."
- eRobertParker.com, August 2015

2012 GRENACHE, 90 POINTS
"Pure, ripe and refreshing, with graceful, snappy raspberry, black cherry and black licorice flavors, ending with touches of dried herb and anise. Drink now through 2024."
- James Laube, Wine Spectator, December 2014

As you are aware, the PharaohMoans label is a replica of the Rosetta Stone, which in 1822 finally decoded the hieroglyphic script. The dull text (which refers to tax breaks for priests) was inscribed in three languages, Greek, demotic Egyptian and hieroglyphics. We've just learned about a recent discovery at the British Museum of a fourth language on the Rosetta stone. The relic was fought over by French and British troops at the end of the Napoleonic wars, and finally taken to London. On the side of the stone, painted in English, one can read, "Captured in Egypt by the British Army in 1801." We think our English label inspired them to check!

We hope you will enjoy this world class rhone-style wine. Nunc Est Bibendum! ("Now we drink!")
