Pharaoh Moans Paso Robles Syrah 2008
Our Syrah/Grenache blend consistently receives the highest accolades for California Rhone blends; and the '08 is no exception -- despite its dubious distinction as one of the smallest crops in recent record!
We are happy to report that our vineyards continue to mature vigorously in their clay and limestone soil composites in Paso Robles’ Westside appellation. The tough news for us is that our yield was down 40% in 2008, and our production was limited to 8 barrels of wine or 200 cases. We will do our best to honor allocations to our most loyal customers from the outset of our viticultural journey!
The 2008 PharaohMoans, a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Grenache, will have rested 17 months in a combination of Saury, Tarransaud and L’Ermite French cooperage. The wine exhibits strong aromas of black cherries, plums and dark chocolate, with typical Northern Rhone aromas of exotic spices, white pepper and delicious smoked meats.
The name PharaohMoans pays tribute to the birthplace of wine - and plays with the term "pheromones", which of course is the hormonal influence behind a variety of sensory patterns (including consumption of very fine wines) among our kind. Wine was discovered in Egypt nearly 6,000 years ago, around the time when Hieroglyphs were first used in 3500 BC. The Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1822 and unlocked the written secrets of culture of this ancient civilization. The Egyptian Pharaohs had a great zest for life and the finest things that it had to offer.
PharaohMoans reflects our desire to honor the birthplace of wine. The label is printed to reflect papyrus paper-like paper in the shape of the Rosetta Stone using Hieroglyphics to describe our wine and vintage.
We hope you will enjoy this world class rhone-style wine. Nunc Est Bibendum! ("Now we drink!")
